Our Faculty was established in September 2013 but its history is much longer.
It was on 1 April 2004 when the Institute of Art and Design of the University of West Bohemia started to function as an independent university institute. Before that it existed as a department of the Faculty of Education. In July 2004 it received its first accreditations for the Bachelor of Arts study programmes and soon after that also the first Master of Arts study programmes. The ArtCamp international summer school took place in June 2005 for the first time. The fast development of the institute continued until September 2013 when it transformed into a faculty - the Faculty of Art and Design. In the spring 2014 the faculty adopted the unique name Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art which shows its focus and vision for the future. Since the academic year 2012/13 the school is housed in a new, modern and inspiring building located at the university campus which is nicknamed "the art factory" due to its unique architectonic features.
