Professor Ito works primarily in the field of stop-motion and he is one the leading figures of the Studio of Animation at a prestigious Japanese university, the Tokyo University of Arts (Geidai University). He was accompanied by a talented student and delegates from the Japanese embassy represented by Ms. Katsuro Kitab, who has visited the University of West Bohemia in the past, and Ms. Irena Hosoda Višňovská.
The visit of Mr. Ito represented the culmination of a very successful cooperation between the Studio of Animation and Interactive Art and the Japanese Studio of Animation. "Last year, we agreed on a topic which explores the world of circus. Four teams of Japanese students and four teams of Czech students created eight one-minute-long animations, or to explain it better, eight individual figures typical of a circus performance. All works were created with the stop-motion technique. The Japanese teams used puppet animation, and our students worked with relief animation. We also used the technique of clay relief screening and other types", says Mr. Vojtěch Domlátil.
In the second half of the year, the animations were accompanied by music which was composed by students from the Music Faculty of the Geidai University. "At the meeting, we presented the results of our efforts. Mr. Ito gave us many very helpful tips and creative ideas which were very enriching. At this moment, we have to compile the entire tape and then we can all look forward to seeing the animations at international festivals, on Japanese TV channels and other special events. We also hope that this important collaboration between our Faculty and the University Geidai is going to grow in the future", adds Mr. Domlátil. An example of several movies/circus figures can be watched here.
