The Studio of Photography is a space dedicated to creative processes, exploration, and experimentation. The technical image itself is in constant transformation. This transformation brings with it social, political, material, and ethical layers that are essential to our thinking. While we draw from the medium of photography, we work with various forms of artistic expression. We understand photography as rooted in the context of contemporary art, and we support its potential media overlaps and interdisciplinary approaches. For us, photography is a social phenomenon, and through photographic, moving, and media images—and the ways they are created and disseminated—we engage with contemporary society. We observe how photography develops in relation to the visual and social sciences, while also exploring it through other fields and disciplines.
Our students are encouraged to find their own modes of expression. We welcome a wide range of approaches, from authentic personal testimony to artistic research. Works created in our studio include exhibition projects, artist books, 3D animations, music videos, and poetry.
